Raipur: Three people, including two nuns, were arrested from Durg station in BJP-Sarkar, who were all 23, Maoist affected Narayanpur from Narayanpur on the charge of smuggling three tribal girls and attempted their religious conversion under the guise of giving them nursing jobs in agriculture.On July 25, the arrests instigated a political storm with the Congress following a complaint from a Bajrang Dal worker, alleging that the minorities were being targeted under the BJP -led administration. But CM Vishnu Dev Sai justified the action, claiming that it was a case of “human trafficking under the guise of religious transformation”.Those arrested were identified as sister Preeti Mary (45) and sister Vandana Francis (50), both from Kerala sect, and Sukman Mandvi (19) from Narayanpur.A GRP official claimed that the tribal women were brought to Durg station by Mandvi without informing the Gram Panchayat officials in their Narayanpur village and consent with their parents. The three accused were produced before a local court and sent to jail on judicial remand. Tribal women were sent to a government shelter Sakhi center.Lok Sabha Lop Rahul Gandhi alleged that the arrest pointed to the “BJP-RSS mob rule”. He said on X, “Two Catholic nuns have been imprisoned in Chhattisgarh after their confidence is targeted.
