A panchayat poll candidate in Uttarakhand has informed the officials that he was wrongly declared the winner and his opponent had actually got more votes. The incident occurred during the election for the head of Tarakuli Gram Panchayat, which comes under the constituency of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Champawat. Kajal Bisht was declared the winner by the Election Officer and a certificate of victory was given. However, he later said that his rival Sumit Kumar had secured more votes. “I told the election officer that I did not win the election, I lost. My opponent got three more votes from me, so the certificate should be given to the right winner,” Bisht was asked by the news agency PTI. According to the result, Bisht got 103 votes, while Sumit Kumar got 106. When the case was not resolved at the election officer’s level, Bisht filed a case in the court of Deputy V-Division Magistrate (SDM) Anurag Arya. The SDM accepted the objection and directed the Election Officer to conduct votes within 30 days. Officials said the date of the recount would be announced soon as reported by PTI reported.
