There is a “viable opportunity” of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, Prime Minister Sir Kir Stmper has said, “Before the Friday’s summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The two leaders are meeting in Alaska to discuss how to end the war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelanski and other European leaders, who are not attending the meeting, held a joint call with Trump on Wednesday, so that they could repeat their position.

Ukraine has insisted that it would not accept Russian control of the seized land including Crimea, while Moscow wants to maintain control.
It also wants the assurance that Ukraine will not include NATO military alliance and a range on the size of its army.
Addressing a virtual meeting of European leaders after a call with Trump, Sir Kire said “any ceasefire will be permanent and need a safety guarantee to be permanent”.
“This is why we established this alliance of the prepared,” he said.
The alliance is primarily a group of European countries, promising to provide military assistance to Ukraine – including potential shoes on the ground – to prevent Russia from dissolving any agreeable peace deal.
Sir Kir said that “reliable” military plans were ready in the alliance, which could be used in a case of ceasefire.
He said that if necessary, the leaders of the group were also ready to increase economic pressure on Russia, for example through increasing sanctions.
He praised Trump’s efforts to reach an agreement, saying, “This struggle has been going on for three-bit years and we have not really gone anywhere to the possibility of a viable solution, a viable way to bring it into a ceasefire.
“Now we have that chance because the President has worked.”
Following his call with European leaders, Trump told a press conference that there was a chance of a meeting between Putin and Zelanski.
He said he would use his initial meeting with Putin “Find out where we are and what we are doing”, saying: “We will hold a quick second meeting between President Putin and President Zelansky and ourselves, if they want to keep me there.”
He also warned Putin that if he did not agree to end the war after the Friday’s summit, he would face “very serious consequences”.
Zelanski, who was involved in a call in Berlin to meet German Chancellor Frederick Merz, said the US was ready to continue his support for Ukraine and accused Russia of not wanting peace.
