It is long ago to suggest that this season is an allegation for West Ham, but there is no doubt that it is a significant concern for many of his supporters.
With one goal and eight accepted, they are currently visible that the worrying combination to struggle and much more, which does not bow well to the aspirations to avoid the conflict season.
Prior to the gradual London Derizer against Tottenham and Crystal Palace, there is a visit to Nottingham Forest – West Ham will need to show a lot of improvement from what they have so far in all three difficult games.
Former Tottenham’s midfielder Jamie Radconp said on Sky Sports: “If I am Sunderland, Bernley, Leeds, I am looking at West Ham and thinking, ‘They are, they are the weakest team in the premiere league we are going to catch’.
“That squad is not quite good. They have not got enough good players. This midfield could not just pass, they did not have legs to go around. They need to get someone with real legs.”
New faces can reduce a squad on confidence, but Potter did not suggest that the transfer window on 1 September would be several incoming before it is closed.
“I think it would be a little too much for me to speak about the signal when we have to improve clearly and do better with what we have,” he accepted.
“We need to do more as a group and as usual we will see to strengthen the window while being open.”
Potter knows that he is under pressure, and in the next few weeks in terms of results on pitch and business in both transfer markets – will say a big on its future.
“You are under pressure all the time in these jobs, in this situation, how it is,” he said.
“I know the region, I know what comes with bad results and I accept my responsibility.”
