Welsh Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer Abi Tireni will get away from his role after the diagnosis of cancer.
Tireni will have to take time out of his duties from August 22 and go through treatment, in which no return date was given.
“It’s not an easy decision, but it is one that I should do to focus completely on my health and recovery,” he said.
“I am grateful to the support received from my family, friends and colleagues, and I believe in the team’s ability to continue my work during my absence.
“I ask for understanding and privacy during this time.”
The chair Richard Kolier-Kiwood will take temporary overall charge of the governing body.
